Bio: The bounty hunter Amanaman lurked in Jabba the Hutt's den of crime in Return of the Jedi. It scours the galaxy hunting down fugitives, and keeps their skulls to decorate it's staff. The species is called Amanin but is nicknamed Head Hunters. (Taken from the figure's cardback.)

Commentary: Note the bio-- it lists Amanaman as an "it" and not a "him." Interesting, no? This yellow and green alien became known to fans most famously as one of the final Kenner action figures over 20 years ago, as you could barely see him on the big screen. The fact he was hard to get made him something of a minor grail for many collectors, and the more recent comic stories about Imperials facing off with a whole tribe of these guys made him a fan favorite. In between these events, though, were a couple of Fan's Choice votings, and this guy won round #2 after losing #1 to the Duros. The original figure had a little trouble standing, but its solid construction and massive size made fans demand a new, cheaper, and better version-- and in 2001, they got their wish.
Except for his arms, the figure's articulation is otherwise identical to the original. In 1985, you could get an Amanaman with 4 points of articulation-- this new model has 6, as his wrists are now jointed. Considering his needs for balance, carrying his accessories, and slapping people, this is a nice feature to have. While not as oddly tall as one might remember from the olden days, he's still plenty big and at the time he was too big for a normal blister-- hence his being a deluxe figure with extra accessories. There's a lot of detail rubbed in his scaly skin, with a little dirt in his folds that help bring him to life. The sculpt is great, he can stand with a little bit of futzing, and he's almost perfect-- except his accessories. The staff is very rubbery and gravity will cause it to bend in odd shapes over time, meaning you need to be careful in setting him up so the weapon doesn't get all hooked or anything. (I advise you have the staff in his hand resting on the ground.)
Collector's Notes: Only one version has been released in the modern line so far, but Hasbro strongly hints this or another version may appear in 2008. The figure was a slow seller in many markets and could be found on markdown, or at full price many moons after the figure finished shipping. A shame, but it's good news for you because that means you can pick one up cheap and add it to your collection easily.
