Bio: IG-86 assassin droids guard the lair of Ziro the Hutt on Coruscant. (Taken from the figure's packaging)

Commentary: While Hasbro continues to make revisions in some molds for The Clone Wars action figures, the basis for Ziro's Assassin Droid was basically perfected out the gate. The figure uses the same great IG-86 mold with tons of articulation-- more than mortals can handle. He even has clamp hands, bringing him up to 16 joints! If you have no versions of this mold, you really ought to get one-- I like this one because Ziro's entourage is woefully underrepresented and this droid does have a striking purple color, which is welcome given most figures in The Clone Wars are either white or Earth tones. The figure has a Black Sun logo on his chest, stripes, and red dots to represent his eyes, ears, and other "lights". The diodes are a nice touch. Also, he can do the splits, grasp weapons, and remind you how much your life sucks because Hasbro has not announced a Ziro figure yet, despite strong rumors of a Battle Pack in 2009 which never materialized and another rumor of a mail-in offer in 2011 or 2012. Here's hoping.

Collector's Notes: This figure was not super-easy to get and seemed to come and go quickly in the insane rush that was August 2009. On the bright side, despite being hard to find, he's cheap on eBay-- below retail if you want one.

He's a great figure -- and I agree, Adam, with that deco, if you only get one IG figure from CW, get him (if you can). Along with the commando droid, a really top-notch effort. My only complaint with him is that -- like many CW figs -- even with a base, this figure is not entirely stable (you even have him seated in the picture), and mine is continually tipsy. But design and articulation wise, a home run.

Yeah, a good figure. Got one when figures were $4.50 at Wal-Mart. This release didn't linger like the first IG-86 release (which one Wal-Mart still has a few of).

Why no Ziro the Hutt battle pack? The Jabba one sold well enough, and Jabba has appeared less in Clone Wars.

^Maybe with the ROTJ Jabba pack, they didn't want to have too many Hutts out at once. I think that if Ziro shows up again in the show, we'll get him eventually.

A Ziro the Hutt has been loudly rumored as both a mail-in offer and some sort of retail product but nothing has surfaced yet.

Wow, uh, not from what I saw it didn't. We're talking the 2008 Clone Wars one, right? Between Los Angeles and Phoenix I still see (in 2010) a chunk of these sitting around, and by "chunk" I mean several. I guess it varies from store to store but for a while this seemed to be the single most common Battle Pack in my travels. eBay prices are decent enough, though, I expected it be a lot cheaper.

Shows how things are regionally, they came and went here. The gelagrub pack is the local stinker from the Legacy-packaged Battle Packs. It's still well in stock at Wal-Marts.

Word, Bravo. The Gelagrub BPs are still stuffing the shelves at the TRUs in CT.
